GAUGE: 22 sts = 4”; 30 rows = 4” in St st. CHECK YOUR                                               GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.                                             Circumference: 17½”.

CAP: With CA, cast on 96 sts. Work in ribbing as follows:

Row 1 (Right Side): * Knit2, Purl2; repeat from * across.

Repeat Row 1 for ribbing until 1¾” from beg, end wrong side row.

Work in St stitche, begin Knit row, for 4 rows, end Purl row. Now work 4 rows St stitche with CB, then 4 rows CA, then 4 rows CB, then 2 rows CA.

Shape Crown-Row 1: Continue with CA, [Knit10, Knit2tog] 8 times – 88 stitches.

Row 2: and all even rows through Row 20: Purl.                                                     Row 3: With CB, [Knit9, Knit2tog] 8 times – 80 stitches.                                         Row 5: [Knit8, Knit2tog] 8 times – 72 stitches.                                                         Row 7: With CA, [Knit7, Knit2tog] 8 times – 64 stitches.                                       Row 9: [Knit6, Knit2tog] 8 times – 56 stitches.                                                         Row 11: With CB, [Knit5, Knit2tog] 8 times – 48 stitches.                                       R ow 13: [Knit4, Knit2tog] 8 times – 40 stitches.                                                     Row 15: With CA, [Knit3, Knit2tog] 8 times – 32 stitches.                                     Row 17: [Knit2, Knit2tog] 8 times – 24 stitches.                                                       Row 19: With CB, [Knit1, Knit2tog] 8 times – 16 stitches.                                       Row 21: [Knit2 tog] 8 times – 8 stitches. Bind off all sts leaving a long tail.

FINISHING: With yarn needle, weave long tail of yarn through sts at top of hat; draw up firmly, fasten securely.

Sew back seam, reversing for ribbing. Fold ribbing up
