  • Knitting Needles: 8mm [US 11].
  • Circular Needle: 5.5mm [US 9] – 24”.
  • Stitch holder, yarn needle, 2 stitch markers.

GAUGE: 8 stitches = 4”; 14 rows = 4” in Pattern st. CHECK

YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

Special Abbreviations

M1 (make one stitch) = Lift running thread before next stitch onto left needle and knit into the back loop.

ssk (slip, slip, knit) = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise, one at a time, to right needle; insert point of left needle into the fronts of these 2 stitches and knit them together from this position

Cast on 4 stitches.

Purl 1 row even.

Row 1 (Right Side): KNIT 1, M1, K2tog, M1, KNIT 1 – 5 stitches.

Row 2: KNIT 1, P1, [yo, P1] twice, KNIT 1 – 7 stitches.

Row 3: K6, M1, KNIT 1 – 8 stitches.

Row 4: KNIT 1, P to last st, KNIT 1.

Row 5: KNIT 1, M1, * K2tog; repeat from * to last st, M1, KNIT 1 – 7 stitches.

Row 6: KNIT 1, P1, * yo, P1; repeat from * to last st, KNIT 1 – 11 stitches.

Row 7: K to last st, M1, KNIT 1 – 12 stitches.

Row 8: KNIT 1, P to last st, KNIT 1.

NOTE: The number of stitches varies within each repeat of Rows 5–8, do not count stitches on every row. Instead, count stitches every 4th row. A total of 4 stitches are increased for each repeat of Rows 5–8.

Rows 9-90: Repeat Rows 5-8 twenty more times, then Rows 5 and 6 once more – 95 stitches.

Weave in yarn ends.

Cowl

With right side facing and circular needle, pick up and K68 stitches around neck from marker to marker. Bring edges together and work in rounds of K2, P2 ribbing for 14”. Bind off loosely in ribbing.
